New York: Finger Lakes Region

8.15.2012

Before I share my adventures in our road trip to  the Pacific Northwest, just wanted to share some images from my trip to New York this summer.  When New York comes to mind, it may typically be associated with the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. It was refreshing to spend some time in western New York this summer surrounded by greenery (from willow trees to pine trees) and the iconic Niagara falls, just don't mind the humidity.

But who knew there was wine tasting in New York? This under the radar gem that has been around for a while, known as the Finger Lakes region, offers nature buffs options while taking sips of their favorite wine. The wine trails offer some wonderful whites and reds, but well known for their signature wine, Riesling. The casual atmosphere along with more affordable $3 tastings were definitely a plus compared to some of the California wineries where prices could go up to 6 bucks.

Admiring the magnificent views, we completed the Cayuga Wine trail and went around Cayuga lake in one day with a stop at Ithaca, with its beautiful location overlooking the lake.  The lake is also dotted with small towns with a Norman Rockwell feel. The little town of Aurora is worth a visit for dinner and just to sit by the lake at Aurora Inn. I'll have to check out the Seneca Wine Trail next time.
