Le Marais Flashback

6.28.2012

With our new line of jewelry from Paris-based designer Marine de Diesbach, it had me reminiscing about one of my trips to Paris a couple of years ago. I love the Le Marais district not only for the historic sights and lovely boutiques (great vintage ones too), but for my first taste of galette, a savory crêpe, at Creperie Suzette. It is a type of buckwheat pancake from Brittany and comes with slices of ham, egg and other fillings on top. C'est délicieux!

In the spirit of the season of weddings, love this image.
Place des Vosges

Introducing Marine de Diesbach jewelry

6.26.2012

Walking through the narrow streets of Paris' Le Marais district, one comes across historic sights (such as Place des Vosges), chic boutiques, galleries and cool cafes. Hidden in this trendy yet quaint neighborhood is a little boutique gem showcasing vintage-inspired jewelry design.

Just like "flying" to one of my favorite districts in Paris, we are pleased to introduce the gorgeous bracelets and earrings from the jewelry collection created by Marine de Diesbach.

Summertime

6.22.2012

Happy Friday!Yay, it's officially summer this week!Although it's been warm here lately, I know... we are in California. It can be deceiving because it does get chilly here in San Diego in the morning and at night... the key is to layer. I hope you enjoy this picture. Wherever your travel "wings"  take you this summer, whether taking a road trip or flying to some far getaway vacation, enjoy the moments, get unplugged from all the tech stuff (I will try my best!)  and truly experience the spirit of the place and the people that surrounds you.

New Arrival-Vitrified Studio Ceramics

I love curating our shop especially when coming across such well-crafted and beautiful utilitarian pieces. We are excited to add the functional ceramics by Portland based, Vitrified Studio in our home wares collection. Shelley Martin creates her minimalist ceramics on the potter's wheel and fire it in an electric kiln to cone 4-5. She uses 5 types of different stoneware and porcelain in her studio, glazed with muted colors paired with exposed unglazed clay body. I love her corked bottles (perfect for spices or hidden treasures) and small trays! I use my little tray as a catch all for my rings and small earrings.  It has been such a pleasure working with her to bring these designs to our shop. They're a great addition to your home essentials!

I wish I was in the Netherlands in the beginning of the month to view this performance by Ellen Truijen: "Where the thin lines meet, the pale borders embrace each other where the symbolism of the daily can gently push you in another direction... where dance meets art meets theatre meets styling meets fashion meets me". lapsteel guitar: Rob Truijen artistic guidance: Yvette van der Slik

Red Winged Fairy Wren (new series)
The Beautiful Firetail (new series)

I hope you had a wonderful Father's Day weekend with your family. In honor of my dad and our last name that means "wings",  just wanted to share these colorful prints.

My love for prints and affinity for winged creatures, especially birds, continue with these illustrations by Inaluxe for Earth Greetings. Inaluxe is an illustration and design studio created by the talented Australian duo, Kristina Sostarko and Jason Odd. I am loving their new series "Of Botany & Birds",  inspired by the native Australian bush and of course, birds!

One of my faves....I have this beautiful print that celebrates togetherness as well as individuality.

Kindred Spirits

I also enjoyed the opportunity to introduce and showcase some of our products at a trunk show in Manhattan Beach this past weekend. Thank you to the ladies who hosted the show and to those who stopped by and supported our shop!

Wanderlust

Lago Nahuel Huapi

Happy Friday! As summer is fast approaching, I can feel some far flung destination calling me. In the meantime, I'm left reminiscing about one of our fave places we visited, Argentina. Here's an image from San Carlos de Bariloche, typically known as Bariloche. This picture does not do the color of Lago Nahuel Huapi justice. It's the most beautiful sapphire blue water I've ever seen. I'll have to share our travelogue about our adventures in the Patagonia region in the future. Have an adventurous weekend!

Prints for food lovers

6.12.2012

Whether you love to cook or if you're like me, just love to eat... especially if someone else is doing the cooking, it's hard to resist these playful and colorful illustrations by Anek. Plus any words in Italian just makes them that much sweeter. Ana's simple design reinforces the joy of everyday moments. I've always believed that some of the best things in life are good food and good company- sharing a wonderful meal with your loved ones.

Can you just imagine some of these prints hanging in your kitchen, breakfast area or dining room? Mangia!

I could relate to this last print, since I got use to drinking stronger coffee after living with the sweetest vibrant Italian lady in Florence. She had her handy stovetop Moka pot, an essential ware in any Italian  household.....hmm just remembering that smell of fresh brewed coffee. Here's a lil' Moka pot brewing guide via.

Modern meets Classic

6.11.2012

Emerson Fry's new collection is the perfect combination of classic tailoring and modern chic for the silhouette, materials, colors and subtle unexpected details. Their business motto is also inspiring:

"Emerson Fry is a company that believes in celebrating the uniqueness of the individual, the joy of being alive and all the smallness that makes up the Big Beautiful"

I want every single piece from this collection, but for now they will just have to go in my closet wishlist.....the following are some of my favorite  pieces.

Happy Friday!Just wanted to share this close up image of the lovely koi pond at Balboa Park. If you're in San Diego this summer, try to check out the Shakespeare Festival, a tradition at the Old Globe Theatre in the park.  Have a restful weekend!

Design Function: To Catch and Carry our Essentials

6.06.2012

Erin Templeton Kiss + Make-Up Case
Hammocks and High Tea Dopp Kit
There's no doubt that there are must-haves daily essentials that we keep close to us in our bag, tote or carry all. Although for me, there are times when I should probably purge items and clean some stuff out of my purse or bag. When I do have that urge like a spring cleaning for my bag or when it's time to rotate to another bag,it feels good to get rid of those crumpled up receipts and other items weighing it down.

I sometimes find myself digging around for whatever I need and not finding the item when I actually need it (keys, pen, gum, make up). It has been essential to have a catch-all case, pouch or even a small clutch (ready for a night out) in my bag. It easily holds tech gadgets, jewelry, hair clips, makeup, candy, or knickknacks. These are lovely options to access just what we need daily or in our travels.

Art by Faryn Davis

Two Trails-mixed media on wood by Faryn Davis
Red winged black birds painting
small works
acrylic and ink on wood, resin, grass.
As Vuela means "fly" in Spanish, there is no doubt I'm drawn to art or print with images of birds, especially when they're in flight. Using mixed media, these paintings by Faryn Davis are just amazing for the texture and feel of the images. She also makes hand painted jewelry and incorporates found organic elements in her line. Some of her artwork are available at G. Gibson Gallery.

Hay Fever

Hay Festival Cartagena
Hay Festival-Wales
Hay Festival Kerala

Hay Festival Kerala
These beautiful images are from the Hay Festival at different places around the world.  I wish I could simply "fly" to this literary and arts festival in Wales this week as it celebrates 25 years since its inception around a kitchen table in 1987. Hay Fever is part of this festival and is dedicated to children and families offering workshops and activities. Here's a nice interview with founder Peter Florence via.

In a digital age when information are communicated in an instant, it's great to see how words are communicated through a gathering of people, personal interactions, conversations- as people share  ideas and inspiration.  It brings together the most exciting writers, thinkers, poets, filmmakers, comedians, politicians and musicians to share stories as well as entertain.

Check out this wonderful book and post by Caroline Lawrence from their blog.
