Art by Silke Bonde

7.14.2015

It's been a while since we featured art. But when I came across the work of Copenhagen-based designer and artist Silke Bonde, I couldn't resist sharing these beautiful prints of her work in watercolor.  Her art focuses on themes of nature and simplicity and features a monochromatic palette of blue/green tones, as well as organic forms in this medium. Plus her work is showcased through the lovely photography and styling by Studio Oink. I want every single piece in her collection but my favorite is the world map print for the wanderlust in me and is currently on my coveted art board.

Design Love: Hunting and Narud

What cool jars! The first thought that came to mind when I first saw the apex tables by London-based design studio, Hunting and Narud.  The Norwegian-born design duo Amy Hunting and Oscar joined forces to design objects and spaces that have a strong spatial impact. I love how they use of a variety materials in their line of furniture and objects.  The design studio creates products in a range of different materials featuring textiles, glass, wood or metal.

Design Love: Tuckbox

We're finally back from our holiday and time to catch up on all things beautiful around the net. I discovered the Melbourne-based studio, Tuckbox, a while back and couldn't be more excited to share their contemporary furniture designs. The studio is a family business run by brothers Dan and Ant De Groot along with Dan's wife Prue and emphasizes a journey of creativity and experimentation while celebrating materials used in the design (the metal and wood combo is always a fave!). What an inspiring story and thoughtful approach to craftsmanship. One of my favorites is the MG Hallway console that can showcase trinkets and plants. And I love that they're able to customize and design bespoke creations for any space.

Now that we're on Instagram, one of my favorite things about this platform is truly discovering amazing designers...and you just get sucked into some of the inspiring feeds. One of my recent favorite finds is the work by talented Ryden Ruzzo of Allied Maker, a contemporary lighting design studio.   Whether crafting desk, wall or pendant lighting, they've integrated beautiful materials from wood, metal, glass and fabrics to create elegant minimalist light fixtures. They've combined modern yet timeless simplicity design with quality materials and craftsmanship to adorn your home while truly lighting up your life! I would love to take a peek at their studio in New York someday.

Design by Akiko Kuwahata

There's nothing like the use of natural material for its texture and beauty to create functional accessible products for daily life.  And that's just the approach to design that Japanese born Denmark-based Akiko Kuwahata undertakes to create furniture and objects. Plus she uses one of my favorite materials for its warmth and texture-wood! She uses this versatile material to create beautiful utilitarian objects for every day.

According to Akiko:
"I design and produce high-quality utilitarian objects in wood with a goal of promoting the interest in using well-made wooden products in our everyday lives. I mainly work in wood, and when I am creating something new and striving to find the right shape, It is essential for me to explore the potentials of the material. Therefore I have to engage hands-on with the wood. I strive to make all my products irresistible and pleasant to touch."

Design Love: Ensomono

5.05.2014

I always love to discover new design and creations and was thrilled to have Fabian introduce me to his amazing collection of beautifully designed objects, Ensomono. Working with amazing skilled craftsmen throughout Europe, Belgian designer Fabian Franzen founded this design label in 2012. Enso means "circle", mono means "object" in Japanese language or is associated with "one" or single"  in most Western languages. The brand name reflects the Japanese approach and aesthetic of the objects as well as the unique qualities of the pieces.

According to brand: "Ensomono recognizes that everything is connected in one way or another. This is what the recurring circle of ensomono represents: going full circle in terms of linking the past and the present, materials and techniques, designers and makers, to finally connect people of different backgrounds and places through contemporary craftsmanship."

This sense of unity is also maintained on a different level: within ensomono each individual is equally important, and even though most artisans are used to working silently in the background, they are now given a more appropriate place as part of the process."

Utilizing quality materials, pure simple forms, as well as outstanding craftsmanship from the joint efforts of artisans throughout Europe, Ensomono fuses traditional craftsmanship and modern processes to bring us a timeless collection of contemporary objects. Just want to collect all these pieces!

Colorful Lamps by Colonel

3.05.2014

Most of the country have succumbed to a very long and cold winter this season. We can't complain much here in California and we should be thankful we finally got some rain over the weekend. So the heat is back at least here at home and wanted to spread some sunshine and colors with these playful modern creations by French design studio Colonel. Founded by Isabelle Gilles and Yann Poncelet, the design studio creates furniture and other home accessories that are crafted in France. I'm drawn to the colorful lighting collection that they offer especially the Dowood Collection. Don't they just brighten your day? (literally and figuratively!)

"Isabelle Gilles and Yann Poncelet, designers and owners of Colonel drew this new collection in the same spirit of the previous that makes the brand signature: light wood, patterns and fresh colors reminding travel and holidays throughout the year. "
