Open House: Home of Nancybird Designer Emily Wright

1.25.2014

It's been a while since I've done an open house post where we get to peek at a lovely home somewhere around the globe. I was thrilled to see one of our designers' home featured at one of my favorite blogs, Design Files.  It's only fitting that our next open house post features these beautiful  home of Nancybird designer Emily Wright and her partner Robert Dabal as captured by photographer Eve Wilson.  Featuring a light airy space that highlight layers of textures (can you spot her textiles and stunning creations?) and natural elements, their home is truly a reflection of  their own aesthetic and everything that they love.  I had the pleasure of interviewing Emily and it's wonderful to get a glimpse of her home and studio.

Hope you had wonderful 4th of July!We spent some time in the beautiful Adirondack's region for the holiday. After coming from the relentless heat wave we've been having in Southern Cal this past month, it was definitely a change to transition to the cooler rainy weather (and humidity!) in this area.  Even though we didn't get to do much hiking, it was relaxing to stay in a log home surrounded by the lush greenery typically blanketing this region. About a half hour away to Lake Placid (previous home of Winter Olympics) and Lake Champlain, it was a home away from home featuring a charming wood stove and wall to wall pine wood paneling. Whether as an accent wall, wall to wall wooden panels, floors or ceiling, wood somehow adds an element of warmth and coziness to any space.

Open House: Interior Design by Nickey Kehoe

When I was growing up, I went to a lot of open houses with my family. With a love for real estate, I've seen many homes in the Los Angeles area with various styles of architecture and design. Whether Spanish Mediterranean, English Tudor, Modern Mid Century or Craftsman style homes....you name it I've seen it. We've moved a lot of times, let's just say it's beyond what you can count with your fingers. My friends have said that they measured how long they've known me by the number of homes we've lived in rather than the years. While I now reside in a different city (yes another move), I still enjoy getting a glimpse of homes from around the globe with only a click away. Even though my adopted city is located in a beautiful setting, I do miss my hometown. With all the stereotypical reasons to be annoyed with LA (traffic, too trendy Hollywood type folks, smog alert), I've only grown more fond of it since I've been away for a few years. It's great to see the transformations happening in several areas from Eagle Rock to Venice Beach.  So it's only fitting that I pay homage and feature a home from the City of Angels. I love the cozy interior of this Venice Beach residence photographed by Amy Neunsigner and designed by LA-based residential and commercial design firm/shop Nickey Kehoe. Love their furniture collection!
