Happy Friday! Here are some images of the world famous La Jolla Cove. Since it's the long weekend, we often want to go on a road trip somewhere. We often take for granted that San Diego is located in such a stunning setting and is actually a very popular tourist destination. In the mood for surfing or checkin' out the zoo, why not enjoy the beauty of this place this weekend?Hope you have a restful Memorial Day weekend!

Through Landscape-Ceramics by Young-Mi Kim

5.20.2013

Besides textiles, the other medium that makes me completely giddy and excited is ceramics-especially when I come across such beautiful design in its simplicity. I'm drawn to the pieces created by Korean ceramicist and designer, Young-Mi Kim, for the clean lines and color palette. This is one medium in which one is truly inspired and in awe of not only of the end product, but the process itself in combining the science of firing and art of design.

Lovin' this image not just for my cravings of carrot cakes, but because we're celebrating our first anniversary this month! We're a little shop curated with lots of love. Our name which means "fly" in Spanish is only fitting ,as the year has definitely flown by since we launched.  It's been a lot of hard work and an amazing experience balancing work and life, but we're so glad we took the leap to share this journey with all of you. It's been a pleasure discovering, working and collaborating with such talented and kind designers and makers. My deepest gratitude goes out to those who helped with Vuela Boutique along the way (design, models, and coding ...Yikes!) and those who have featured us this year. Thank you for your kinds words and support! Thank you to all my friends and family who have supported us always. And most of all, it's been wonderful getting to know our customers. I always love to hear from all of you with comments and feedback. I know we may not have the face to face interaction in this world of the net, but I only hope that we can continue to get to know each other and provide you with the same spirit and personalized service like your local neighborhood boutique. It's truly wonderful to connect with individuals from around the world and I love to send our pieces to faraway places.

And to show our appreciation for all your support and to celebrate this year of growth and discovery, we're having a big GIVEAWAY in collaboration with the lovely Jen over at Honey Kennedy blog. You'll receive a $200 credit at our shop to get your favorite pieces. So please check it out and feel free to browse and drop a comment regarding your favorite items from the shop plus you can get an additional entry if you follow us and Honey Kennedy on Facebook. It's open to international entries until Tuesday 5/14/2013, so best of luck to all of  you! Here's to more discoveries, adventures and inspirations!

Introducing Emdal Colorknit

It's always exciting to discover new makers/designers especially in the area of textiles. I'm completely inspired by the label Emdal Colorknit, founded in 2007 by Danish textile artist/designer Signe Emdal. Described as a "nostalgic company" sticking to some early digital tools, she creates garments and scarves from beautiful knitted fabrics. These textiles are constructed locally using a slow production method in her large Copenhagen studio. This is where they keep a 1984 German industrial knitting machining alive. The slow production-method of their knitted textiles is a conscious choice and a tribute to a mindful and peaceful lifestyle they love by heart. Given a few amazing collaborations with brands like Henrik Vibskov, Dansk, Nikita and most recently the National Gallery of Denmark, her textile designs combine beautiful graphic prints and colorful patterns.  We're proud to showcase her stunning and versatile mixed scarves in our shop, including her limited edition flower scarves from her collaboration with National Gallery of Denmark -Staten Museum of Kunst's exhibition "Flowers and World Views”. Signe's commitment to every step of the process from design to production, translates to wearable textiles that combine soft texture with contemporary patterns. Why not wear a "wearable hug"?

Happy Friday!

5.03.2013

Since Vuela means "fly" in Spanish, I'm constantly drawn to images or print of birds in flight.  Discovered via Samantha, just wanted to share this simple yet inspiring print by Maryland based artist Matthew Amey. Plus it's aptly titled "Free". Well here's to another week that just "flew" by and I just can't believe it's already May. Hey maybe this is the beginning of "flyin' Friday"... of sharing images in flight. Happy Friday!Enjoy this weekend and be free!
